Marketing hot seats for therapists

You’re a therapist. Now you’re expected to know marketing, too.

You love the work you do with clients. But you need more of them, and you didn’t train to be a salesperson or marketer.

Should you make Instagram videos? Pay for ads or help with SEO so people can find you on Google? Are directories like Psychology Today or Doctoranytime worth paying for? How do you build relationships with other therapists that lead to referrals?

It’s a lot to work out alongside your actual work. And when you don’t have enough clients, you feel you have to try things you don’t feel comfortable doing.

The Marketing Hot Seat is a weekly online group where you get help deciding what’s worth doing for your practice and how to go about it.

I’m Aggelos Mouzakitis, a psychotherapist with 18+ years in marketing and product. I coach members live, with input from other therapists trying to find more clients.

Bring something you want help with, or come to listen. There are no forums, group chats or spam to keep up with. The session recording and written summary are available for seven days, then removed.

After your first session, you can request a full refund of your first month’s €59. No questions asked.

Will this just give me more things to do?

You can spend an evening reading about marketing and finish with a longer to-do list. The difficult part is deciding what actually deserves your time and money.

Each week, we take a member’s real marketing question and work through it in the room. You hear how we weigh the options and arrive at something worth trying, even when the question isn’t yours. There’s no group feed to post in or keep checking between sessions.

What will we actually do in a session?

We work with what members are dealing with that week. A session can include:

  1. Live coaching on the thing you’re stuck on

A volunteer brings a real marketing decision: whether to try paid ads, for example, or how to build a referral relationship. We look at what they’ve tried and what makes sense for their practice, with my coaching and focused input from the group.

If you’re listening, you hear why a particular choice does or doesn’t make sense. That reasoning can help with a decision of your own.

  2. Work on something you can use

We can work on a piece of content together or draft a first message to another therapist. If you’re unsure about hiring help, we can look at what you’d be paying someone to do and the questions to ask before you commit.

  3. See how other therapists do it

Hear how other therapists are finding clients, including the attempts that went nowhere. You can ask about the work behind “Instagram works for me” or “most of my clients come through referrals”, and consider whether their experience applies to you.

As you get to know each other’s work, you also build relationships with colleagues. Those connections can lead to appropriate referrals.

  4. Practise the parts that feel awkward

Try introducing your work to another therapist, or explaining an idea as you would in a short video. You can hear what comes across and practise the parts that usually make you hesitate.

You can join in or watch. Nobody will call on you because you’ve been quiet.

What does a week look like?

  1. We meet online once a week. You can bring a current question, contribute to someone else’s hot seat, or listen.

  2. Afterwards, you get the video recording and a written summary of the useful points. Both stay available for seven days, then are removed. Miss a week and you can catch up during that window, or come to the next session.

  3. When you try something we’ve discussed, you can bring back what happened. That gives us something concrete to work with as your practice develops.

I’ll send the session times and joining information so you can decide whether it fits.

What can we work on?

The focus is finding more clients and making the marketing around your practice manageable. That includes choosing what to do, deciding what to pay for, and getting help with the parts you find uncomfortable.

What should I focus on to find more clients?

Work through where your next clients could come from and what fits the time you have. That could mean content or SEO, or putting more effort into directories and referral relationships.

You can look at the options with me and hear how other therapists made similar decisions.

What’s worth paying for?

Work out whether to pay for ads or a directory listing, and when it makes sense to hire help. We can discuss what you need someone to do and how to assess what they’re offering.

Bring the service you’re considering and the questions you’re unsure how to ask.

How do I do this when it feels uncomfortable?

Making a video or contacting a colleague can feel uncomfortable, even when you know it could help your practice. You can bring that hesitation into the room, too.

We can work on the words and practise the conversation, so you have somewhere to start when you leave the session.

Who’s running this?

I’m Aggelos Mouzakitis, an integrative psychotherapist with 18+ years in marketing and product. I spent seven years running a consultancy and have worked with over 100 technology companies.

I also run my own psychotherapy practice. I understand why advice that sounds straightforward in another business can feel uncomfortable when you’re marketing therapy.

I’ll help you question the advice you’ve been given and work on changes you can use. You decide what fits your work as a therapist.

Come to a session and see how it works.

Your membership includes the weekly live sessions, coaching during hot seats, input from fellow therapists, and the recording and written summary available for seven days after each meeting.

You’ll still need to try things in your own practice. The group gives you somewhere to decide what’s worth trying and get help when you’re stuck.
